Edgar Allan Poe was known as the master of the macabre. Whether in prose or poetry, he had a lyrical, rhythmic style that evoked impending doom and despair, leaving first-time readers uncomfortable and fans delightfully unsettled. Known as the master of American Gothic literature, his legacy lives on in works such as “The Raven,” “Annabel Lee,” and “The Fall of the House of Usher.”
