Once upon a time, there were two German brothers who were folklorists and linguists. They were Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm and Wilhelm Carl Grimm, popularly known as Brothers Grimm. While studying law, author Clemens Brentano inspired them to look into folk poetry, which later on pushed them to quit law school and to instead focus on literary research. They soon traveled and looked into folk traditions of Spain, Scotland, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Ireland, and many several others, collating their research in “Kinder- und Hausmärchen” a book for children and adults that contain familiar favorites—Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Little Red Riding Hood, among others.
While versions of their collated stories have changed throughout the decades, they continue to play a huge part in children and adult literature, inspiring interpretations in different media. Because of this, Montblanc released the Writers Edition Brothers Grimm to acknowledge the contributions of the Brothers Grimm. With a shape inspired by a hiking stick, the pen’s barrel and part of the cap are made from black precious resin to represent the darkness of the woods that many of the Brothers’ stories were set, and etched to mimic the flowing hair of Rapunzel. The clip is shaped like a wooden stick, which shows the profile of the siblings when turned.
