Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was an aristocrat-turned-pilot, novelist, and poet. He learned to fly in 1921 as part of his military service, which required him to move from Morocco, then back to Paris. After leaving service, he worked for French airmail carrier Aeropostale, later becoming the director of the subsidiary Aeroposta Argentina S.A. Charged with mapping new routes, he piloted the group’s inaugural flight on November 1, 1929.

The engravings on the dark blue body of the Montblanc Writers Edition Antoine de Saint-Exupéry fountain pen released in 2017 memorialize the constellations Saint-Exupéry observed at 23:00 on that journey, with platinum-coated fittings inspired by the cockpit. Etched on its cone are the coordinates for several important cities that figured in his life, while the nib features the star from his famous novel, “The Little Prince”; a story that took much from his crash in the Sahara Desert on December 30, 1935, while flying a Caudron Simoun plane that inspired the shape of the pen.
