Montblanc Writer’s Edition Oscar Wilde
₱65,000.00

Irish author Oscar Wilde was a huge believer of the Aestheticism movement and an advocate for “art for art’s sake”.  He knows, however, the dangers of only focusing on beauty to the point of dismissing function and morality. This is best seen in his 1890 novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, which is the story of a handsome man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty—his true age would only manifest on an enchanted painting of him and for as long as it survives, so would he. His perceived immortality leads him to a life of debauchery, while little by little, the portrait becomes a record of his decaying soul.

The Picture of Dorian Gray is a cautionary tale about obsessing over aesthetics, and one of several novels that delve into paradoxes and social issues. Wilde’s wit and flamboyance echo in his other works (The Importance of Being Earnest, Lady Windermere's Fan, An Ideal Husband), earning him a place as one of the literary greats of the 19th century.

As such, Montblanc released the Writers Edition Oscar Wilde in 1994 as a commemoration of all his achievements. It features a Victorian-inspired design, with a barrel made from fractals of green, amber, and black resin. It has a domed cap that has the author’s signature etched on one side, and gold-plated sterling silver fixtures that lend to its vintage vibe. It carries an 18-karat gold nib with etched curlicues and the date of its release.

We have for sale a pre-owned Montblanc Writers Edition Oscar Wilde with an M nib. We’re offering only the pen, no box or papers.
