Did you know that “Mark Twain” was actually the pen name of Samuel Langhorne Clemens? Before becoming a writer, Clemens was a steamboat pilot, and “mark twain” was a crewman’s alert for a water depth of 12 feet. This nod to his past was all in theme with his literature, which includes the memoir “Life on the Mississippi”, and popular American classics “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” and “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”.
Marking the centennial of his death, Montblanc released the Writers Edition Mark Twain set in 2010. It is composed of three writing instruments: a fountain pen, a ballpoint pen, and a mechanical pencil. Each one is hefty, featuring a deep blue precious resin body decorated by overlapping curved lines, representing the waters of the Mississippi that inspired many of the author’s tales. The trims are platinum-plated, including the top of the pen cap/pencil reminiscent of steamboat smokestacks, and a clip inspired by the strings of a harp, a popular musical instrument during his time.
We have for sale a pre-owned complete set of the Montblanc Writers Edition Mark Twain, including all three writing instruments (the fountain pen’s nib is made of rhodium-coated gold), its book-like box, and all inserts and inclusions.
