Montblanc Patron of Art Louis XIV

Louis XIV, known as “le Roi Soleil” or “the Sun King”, was a controversial French figure who held absolute monarchical control, as he believed that his rule was a divine right and that to rebel against it was a sin. His constant wars and his campaign to ban Protestantism not only drained government coffers and drove out skilled workers, but also set the foundation for the French Revolution. 

The Sun King, however, was also known as an avid supporter of the arts. He turned Versailles into a European cultural hub, aesthetically improved upon by interior designer Charles Le Brun and landscape architect André Le Nôtre. He funded royal academies and supported masters. He also uplifted French theater and opera by being a patron to playwrights, dramatists, and musicians such as Molière, Jean Racine, and Jean-Baptiste Lully. 

As a nod to his contribution to the arts, Montblanc released the Montblanc Patron of Art Louis XIV, a gold-plated sterling silver pen, which features the intricate patterns found in the halls of Versailles. It has a domed cap and a delicately designed 18-karat gold nib with a heart-shaped breather hole.
