Queen Elizabeth I of England and Ireland is most known for ushering in her territories’ “Golden Age” and establishing them as European superpowers. One way she showed strength and stability was by supporting education and the arts. Theater was close to her heart, and she supported many playwrights and dramatists who are now considered legendary — Ben Jonson, Robert Greene, Christopher Marlowe, Thomas Dekker, and William Shakespeare. Theater was not only for the rich, and the Queen made sure that it was an affordable experience for all.
In celebration of her efforts to strengthen the foundations of theater, turning it into what it is today, Montblanc released the Patron of Art Homage to Elizabeth I 4810, with a cap and barrel made from black precious resin designed with a pattern popular during the Elizabethan era.
The trims are all gold-plated. The cap ring near the finial is etched with the Tudor rose with a background inspired by the embroidered cover of “Miroir or Glasse of the Synneful Soul”, from which Elizabeth translated a poem in her youth. Engraved on the bottom cap ring is “Video et Taceo”, which means “I see and keep silent” — a testament to how she always observed, listened, learned, revealed nothing, and kept her political strategies close. The clip ends with a synthetic green gem that perfectly aligns with the cross on the cap.
We have for sale a brand-new Montblanc Patron of Art Homage to Elizabeth I 4810, with an 18-karat gold nib in M engraved with the queen’s crown. It comes complete with its box, papers, and other inclusions.
Length capped: 14.6 cm.
