If you’ve seen the famous “Campbell’s Soup Cans”, a work of art comprising 32 canvases depicting a Campbell’s Soup can, then you’re probably familiar with the artist behind it. Andy Warhol, who began as a commercial illustrator before becoming a painter, debuted “Campbell’s Soup Cans” in a one-man gallery exhibition in California in 1962. The work was initially controversial, with critics questioning Warhol’s process and motives. The artist explained that it was simply what he had for lunch every day for 20 years, and the work was the expression of his experience. Whatever people’s opinions were, the event marked the beginning of pop art and turned Andy Warhol into a household name.
In honor of a disruptive yet innovative artist who ushered in a new cultural movement, Montblanc released the Great Characters Edition Andy Warhol rollerball pen. This pen features the famous soup cans engraved in stainless steel on its cap, bordered by cobalt blue resin and the artist’s quote, “Art is what you can get away with.” The clip is reminiscent of the squeegee Warhol used to paint. The cap ring is engraved with his signature. The barrel, also made with cobalt blue resin, is bordered by orange rings as a nod to the color variations of his most popular work.
