Inspired by Jules Verne’s Around the World in Eighty Days, this Meisterstück LeGrand captures the final leg of Phileas Fogg and Passepartout’s journey from Yokohama back to London, including their passage across the United States by train.
Its cap and barrel are crafted from dark blue precious resin, while the cap incorporates details inspired by the railway journey, including a lasered train, pressure valves, and the smoke of a locomotive. The cone carries a safety-chain pattern recalling the moment Passepartout disconnects the train from the locomotive to protect its crew.
One of the pen’s most distinctive details is the red lacquered heart card suit on the ruthenium-coated clip. The heart represents the union between Phileas Fogg and Princess Aouda, while the recurring card suits throughout the design reference the wager that drives Fogg’s journey around the world.
The cap top records the timeline of the final leg, marking 36 days from Yokohama to London and completing the full 80-day journey. Its handcrafted Au585/14K solid gold nib is decorated with the dates 14/11 and 21/12, representing Fogg’s departure from Yokohama and his planned return to London. A hot-air-balloon motif on the nib also pays tribute to Jules Verne’s first adventure novel, Five Weeks in a Balloon.
We have for sale a brand-new Montblanc Meisterstück Around the World in 80 Days LeGrand Fountain Pen with an Au585/14K solid gold nib in Fine. It comes complete with its box, papers, and other original accessories.
