Graf Von Faber Castell Pen of the Year series, which started in 2011, features writing instruments that push the limits of design, resulting in experimentation with different materials and techniques, producing unique works of art.
In 2017, the brand released Vikings, inspired by the famous seafaring Norse people from the olden times. Dominating the northern seas for centuries, they were very skilled shipmakers. They are most commonly portrayed as raiders, but their legacies went beyond running through Europe and North America, as they were also farmers, traders, and artisans who practiced democracy.
Their longboats were the basis for the Vikings fountain pen, which has a platinum-plated body and a barrel decorated with slivers of curly birch, prized for their durability. Down the barrel is a pattern inspired by Viking knots, and at the end is the brand’s name in Younger Futhark, or Scandinavian runes. On the cap’s finial is carnelian, a gem Vikings used for jewelry. The nib is made of two-tone, 18-karat gold.
We have for sale a brand-new Graf Von Faber Castell Pen of the Year 2017 Vikings with a BB nib. It comes complete with its box, papers, and other inclusions. This is one of only 500 units ever produced.
