Ebony is known for its density, durability, its jet-black color, and its ability to achieve a high gloss. This hardwood has been used in India, Ethiopia, and Persia for hundreds of years to be made into everything from scepters to drinking cups. Ebony comes from several species of Diospyros that are usually found in the tropics.
