Aurora Optima Purple Auroloide

The Aurora Optima traces its design heritage to 1930, combining the distinctive proportions of Aurora’s historic writing instruments with the craftsmanship and technical features of its modern fountain pens. Its compact, flat-ended silhouette has since become one of the most recognizable designs in the Italian manufacturer’s collection. 

This version brings the Optima into a particularly rich color combination with Viola Auroloide and rose-gold-plated details. Introduced in 2020, it marked the first use of this particular Auroloide shade with rose-gold trim on a regular-production Aurora fountain pen. 

The cap and barrel are turned from Aurora’s Auroloide, a material developed to provide the depth and brilliance associated with traditional celluloid while offering the durability and reliability of modern resin. In Viola, the material reveals layers of purple with lighter, pearlescent variations that become especially visible as the pen catches the light. 

Rose-gold-plated fittings create a warm contrast against the purple Auroloide, while the broad cap band carries Aurora’s historic branding and Greek-key decoration. The barrel also features the traditional Aurora inscription that references the company’s Italian fountain pen heritage. 

Completing the pen is Aurora’s solid 14K gold nib in Fine. The Optima uses a built-in piston-filling mechanism with Aurora’s hidden ink reserve, which provides a small additional supply of ink once the main reservoir appears empty.
