The original Kaga-nuri technique takes from Kawa-nuri, which is inspired by the Negoro-nuri way of the Negoroji Temple. This requires applying a black urushi layer beneath an overcoat of vermilion, which, upon drying, shows through the red top layer, creating “suremamo”, or a visual expression of natural wear or abrasions. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eKaga-nuri is featured on the Sailor Urushi Rei Ishikawa Kaga-Nuri fountain pen, a piece created by master artisan Isana Kobayashi, who has practiced the art for more than 30 years. It has an ebonite base finished with Ishikawa Kaga-nuri urushi and a grip made from PMMA Resin.
