It followed the unjust death by seppuku of the young Ako daimyo Asano Takumi-no-Kami Naganori after attacking Kira Yoshinaka, an allegedly corrupt official who unrelentingly insulted him.

After hearing the news, Asano’s principal counselor Ōishi Kuranosuke Yoshio arranged for the safety of his dead master’s family and began plotting his revenge with the rest his men.

The time came after two years, and on that day Tomimori Sukeemon Masakata, a poet and one of the 47, wrote: "None can catch the fall of the loyal members." Leaving most retainers unharmed, the band of warriors stormed Kira Yoshinaka’s residence and took his head, offering it to the grave of their fallen master before surrendering to the authorities and committing seppuku. Their story continues to be retold several centuries later through kabuki, bunraku, opera, television, and cinema.

Inspired by their loyalty and the last words penned by Tominomori Sukeemon-Masakata, Sailor released the King of Pen Maki-E Ukiyo-e Tominomori Sukeemon-Masakata, recreating a woodblock print of the warrior-poet by Utagawa Kuniyoshi. Handcrafted with Iwata urushi, it features the Taka Maki-e technique that results in raised sections, giving the design an interesting visual and tactile texture.

We have for sale a brand new Sailor 1911 King of Pen Maki-E Ukiyo-e Tominomori Sukeemon-Masakata fountain pen complete with its box, papers, and other inclusions.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0717/4547/0720/files/1_b0ad36f3-1078-4be0-bbe1-de6176cf0208.png?v=1784440968
https://manilapenography.com/products/sailor-1911-king-of-pen-maki-e-ukiyo-e-tominomori-sukeemon-masakata
