Shoryu, or “rising dragon,” is a prominent subject in traditional Japanese art and is often depicted emerging from waters and weaving through clouds. Its upward journey symbolizes power, wisdom, and self-improvement, and it is also considered a divine and protective being.
In modern media, “shoryu” is a common name for powerful characters and—quick trivia—is even the base word for the popular attack of Street Fighter’s Ryu and Ken called “Shoryuken” or “Rising Dragon Fist”.
The shoryu is traditionally depicted on the Platinum 3776 Century Kanazawa-haku Century Shoryu. The ascending dragon is carefully painted on thin layers of Kanazawa gold leaf applied by hand using the traditional “Momi Chirashi” technique, offering depth and elegance.
