Johann Sebastian Bach was a late Baroque musician and a classical music legend considered to be one of the greatest composers of all time. His beginnings as a choir boy and a church organ player were the foundations of his many popular pieces. His Cantata No. 71, Gott ist mein König (God Is My King) of 1708 was his first composition to be published, and is still being performed today. In 1721, he made the Brandenburg concertos; in 1747 he played for Frederick the Great of Prussia. In 1749, a year before his death, Bach completed the Mass in B Minor, an extended setting of the Latin High Mass and the summation of his life’s work.
With an impressively complex style that heavily used polyphony, chromaticism, and modulation, Bach’s works became the foundation of Western classical music for the following two centuries. In honor of his many and still ongoing contributions to music, Montblanc released the Donation Pen Johann Sebastian Bach (2001). It features a barrel of dark brown precious resin contrasted by a deep coral cap engraved with the composer’s signature. The gold-plated cap ring features measures from the original manuscript of Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, while the clip features a stylized G-clef. The nib is made from 18-karat gold, and is engraved with Bach’s profile.
